Growth Through Development of Natural Resources in Africa

Back

Energem Petroleum Corporation Limited (EPCL) is the mid-stream oil division of Energem Resources Limited.

EPCL is focused on refined fuel product sales, mainly in Malawi at present, as well the identification of fuel distribution and infrastructure projects throughout the African continent, having successfully developed and managed a US$ 50million project in this field in Nigeria which was sold for a profit of US$ 56 million for our 50% interest in 2008.

50% held US$ 50 million Nigerian Project, constructed in 2004-2006, sold in 2008

EPCL, in 50% partnership with the Yinka Folawiyo Group, developed and constructed a 66,000 metric ton refined fuel product storage and distribution facility with its own privately owned deepwater jetty in Apapa, Lagos, Nigeria – it remains the only private fuel facility with access to such a deep water jetty in Lagos, it has a through-put capacity of 150,000 MT per month.

The company built a facility, with all designs completed in accordance with the engineering standard API-650, that is capable of handling multiple fuel products. It is able to store both PMS (premium motor spirits) and AGO (automotive gas oil) on behalf of third parties.

The facility was successfully commissioned in August 2006. The facility is one of the few in Nigeria that can receive large vessels in excess of 30,000 metric tons directly into port storage without the use of intermediate trans-shipment vessels thereby avoiding the lengthy wait for berths that vessels are currently experiencing in Lagos.

Malawi

In 2005 EPCL entered the Malawian market through the construction and commissioning of a 1,400 MT refined product storage and distribution facility in Chirimba, Blantyre at a total capital cost of $2.1 Million. Additional tanks installed at key customers increase this capacity to 1,600 MT in total.

The Depot’s design and construction management was handled by Thompson and Van Eck Engineers.

A second depot was commissioned in Lilongwe in 2006 to service the substantial tobacco industry in the area. This facility currently has storage capacity of 124 MT. It also supplies Bitumen Products to the local market.

These depots service the wholesale fuel industry mainly in agriculture.

Energem Petroleum Limited is currently expanding its business into the retail fuel sector and services 11 retail outlets throughout Malawi with 5 operating under the Energem brand name.

Energem also currently has projects underway to open stations in other areas of Malawi and is looking at expanding into neighbouring countries.

Energem Petroleum is also one of the largest suppliers of Bitumen products to the Malawian market.

The company employs 100 Malawians in these operations and is the largest independent petroleum importer into Malawi.
